The Importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

What is PPE?

Personal protective equipment, also referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Personal protective equipment may include items such as gloves, safety glasses and shoes, earplugs or muffs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls, vests and full body suits.

Who Needs It?

  • Patients with confirmed or possible SARS-CoV-2 infection should wear a facemask when being evaluated medically.
  • Healthcare personnel working in all healthcare facilities should be required to wear proper PPE equipment (KN95 masks, gloves, etc.).
  • Industrial workers or anyone working in high contact, high volume crowded areas (transportation, janitorial, food service, hospitality, etc.).

Be Proactive to Protect

The safety of the frontline healthcare workers is a top priority, that's why when it comes to the proper PPE, Solvet aims to provide the highest quality.

Respiratory Protection

During the pandemic, a topic that has been brought to everyone’s attention and raised some important issues is respiratory protection. COVID-19 being a respiratory illness has highlighted the significance of protecting our respiratory system to save lives. For the healthcare personnel as well as the general public, surgical and N95 masks have been needed to protect people in their daily lives.

Hand and Skin Protection

One of the most important things you can do to protect against COVID-19 is to keep your hands clean and free from germs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that you wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Although washing your hands frequently is the first step in preventing the spread of COVID-19, extra measures need to be taken by healthcare workers who work in close contact and higher chances of exposure to the virus and other harmful diseases. This is why Solvet provides an extensive line of nitrile blend gloves of all types and specs.

PPE and COVID-19

PPE facilities are popping up everything to cater to the worlds needs.  Healthcare professionals rely on personal protective equipment every single day to protect themselves and their patients from the spread of germs and infectious diseases. But now, with the coronavirus pandemic spreading like wildfire, PPE is more important than ever.

Now, healthcare professionals are seeing the real risk of failure to use PPE, rather than discussing risk as a hypothetical worst-case scenario. Healthcare workers are now the most at-risk population for coronavirus simply because they see so many infected patients.
